New ICBC driving standards

To meet requirements for our vehicle insurance through ICBC, two changes have been made to The Car Co-op's Member Manual.

Your right to drive will be automatically suspended after:

  • your sixth late return of a vehicle within the past six months, or
  • your second at-fault accident (50% or more at fault, as determined by ICBC) involving another vehicle within the past three years.

Suspensions will be removed when you once again meet these driving standards.

Meeting these driving standards across our membership is meant to keep down the cost of our insurance, and will hopefully also reduce the need for vehicle repairs.

Questions or concerns about these new standards?  Please get in touch with us through email at .

Coming soon to the Olympic Village

Working with residential developers is nothing new to The Car Co-op, but we've never been involved with a project of this scope and fanfare.  Millennium Water, the former residence of the Olympic athletes, has been described as possibly the greatest residential community in the world.  The community has achieved stellar ratings from the Canadian Green Home Building Council's LEED certification program.

One of the touchstones of green design for buildings is the inclusion of a car sharing program.  The Car Co-op will soon place three to six vehicles at Millennium Water, available for all our members and drivers to us and to attract new residents to our co-operative.  And as the village grows, so will the number of Co-op vehicles within the community.

The Tyee recently published a comprehensive article about the site.

Our millionth booking

We don't mean to brag, but this is something worth talking about!  In May 2010, The Car Co-op had its one millionth booking.  As captured by Derek Moscato of Metro Vancouver:

Congratulations to Vancouver's Co-operative Auto Network, the home grown car-sharing organization that recently celebrated an important milestone:  Its one-millionth vehicle booking.  And in an appropriate twist, the booking was made by none other than Greenpeace Canada.

Yes, it's true; Greenpeace driver Jessica was the auspicious member.  You can read the full story here.
