Questions & AnswersThe biggest question people have when they come to CAN is, "Will it work for me?" Our very simple answer is that if you need a car four days a week or fewer, then the Co-operative Auto Network will probably be a cost-effective and efficient alternative to owning your own car. We highly recommend car sharing for people who already commute using alternatives like the bus, cycling or walking — or who would like to make that commitment. Car sharing can help you change the way you use transportation, and the financial savings can make the rest of your life work better too. The next big question is, "How does it work?" Depending on your usage and commitment level you would choose either full CAN Membership, an account with The Company Car or a DepositFree account. Once you have signed up for your chosen plan, you will have access to every car in the CAN fleet. When you need a car, just log into our booking system (at the left of this screen) or call the CAN office 24 hours a day to select the car you need for the times you need it. Once your booking starts, go to the car, make your trip and return the car to the place you picked it up. Repeat the process as often as you need a car, and once a month CAN will send you a bill for your usage. The charges on this invoice pay for everything you need — the car, the parking, the insurance, the gas, and BCAA coverage — at a small fraction of what you'd pay to own the car by yourself.
