Car sharing is the new way to own a car. People car share
for varied (and often multiple!) reasons - like to save money on transportation
or lessen their impact on our environment.

The Car Co-op is making car sharing a viable sustainable transportation option
for Metro Vancouverites. There are a number of ways in which you can join us:

Car Co-op membership
offers you the opportunity to be an owner of our cars and a shareholder
in this fantastic not-for-profit co-operative. Members pay a one-time,
refundable $500 share purchase. Our members are charged our lowest rates
and have a vote at our annual general meeting. Membership has its
perks!

DepositFree
drivers don't purchase the $500 share, but still have access to all of our
vehicles at a low rate. The DepositFree option is great if you want
to try out car sharing before becoming a full member. It's still
less expensive than owning a car!

B.C.'s Scrap-It program
gives people an opportunity to trade in their ‘underperforming’
vehicles and receive a credit to car share with The Car Co-op. Either as
a member or as a DepositFree driver, your Scrap-It credit equals some free driving!

Through our
L/N drivers
pilot program, The Car Co-op was able to expand car sharing to our members'
kids, friends and partners with new B.C. licences.
The pilot program is now in the review stage; we are not signing up L/N
drivers at this time.

Basic requirements
To be a driver with The Car Co-op you need:
- a good credit rating
- at least 3 years of driving history*
- a B.C. driver's licence (or a willingness to get one soon after joining)
- three or fewer traffic violations in the last five years
- no at-fault accidents in the last three years
- no criminal convictions under the Motor Vehicles Act
- a willingness to commit for a minimum of six months
